SavetheDDO.org is run by people from across the GTA who care about the fate of the David Dunlap Observatory. If you would like to help out be sure to visit this site regularly for news and information about how to get involved.
OUR MISSION
The mission of "Save the DDO” is to ensure the preservation of the David Dunlap Observatory as a historic landmark, an operating observatory for scientific research, and a natural landscape for the people of the GTA to enjoy. It would be an incredible loss to this province and this country to see these amazing buildings, filled with history and the site of numerous scientific discoveries, demolished for the sake of urban sprawl.

WHAT THE DDO COULD BE!
Savetheddo.org supports the idea of the DDO becoming a community observatory....what does this mean? Luckily we don't have to explain it because there a number of examples from around the world that could show us what an incredible asset to the community the DDO could be if our leaders have the will to make it happen. Please visit the links below and feel free to dream.

Write a Letter - Make a Difference
We all know that there are many reasons to why the DDO and the surrounding lands should be preserved. It is an important heritage site, it is a valuable education and research facility, and it is a natural sanctuary for numerous species (including Homo-sapien). If the potential loss of this property concerns you don't just get angry...get active! One of the simplest things that everyone can do to make a difference is to write a personalized letter to a local official. It doesn't have to be long, you don't have to do research, you don't have to be from Richmond Hill, and you can send it via snail mail or even email. The only important thing is that it indicates your concern about the potential loss of the DDO and that you want it saved!
Here are a few recommendation on who you should send your letter too:
Your local MPP (Provincial) - To find out who that is visit www.gov.on.ca
Your local MP (Federal) - To find out who that is visit http://www.parl.gc.ca/common/index.asp?Language=E
And make sure a copy of your letter goes to some or all of the following Ontario Ministers:
The Honourable Aileen Carroll
Minister of Culture 900 Bay Street 5th Floor, Mowat Block Toronto, Ontario M7A 1L2 Email: info.mcl@ontario.ca
The Honourable John Milloy
Minister or Training, Colleges, and Universities 2nd Floor, 880 Bay Street Toronto ON M7A 1N3 Email: jmilloy.mpp@liberal.ola.org
The Honourable John Gerretsen
Minister of the Environment 12th Floor, 135 St. Clair Avenue West Toronto, Ontario M4V 1P5 Email: jgerretsen.mpp.co@liberal.ola.org
The Honourable Dalton McGuinty
Legislative Building Queen's Park Toronto ON M7A 1A1 Email: dmcguinty.mpp.ca@liberal.ola.org
***Just a recommendation to everyone. While sending letters to the Prime Minister and various federal ministers is important, I would say it is more effectual to address the letter or email to your local MPP or MP or provincial minister and simply send a copy to the PM or Federal Enivornment Minister. If we can build a groundswell of support at the local level the feds would be more likely to listen.
